ASC Talent Show: Decades of Tradition

As of 2009, the talent show has been held a number of 21 times throughout the lifespan of the commission. It has grown to become a lasting tradition that celebrates the diversity and talent of Asian communities at the University of Washington as well as the overall Asian community at large.

Its structure has changed throughout time, but its purpose remains the same. Crowds of audiences gather, and watch a variety of performances ranging from singing, intrumental performances, dances, to even Chinese yo-yo exhibitions. There is no limit and boundary to the talent of ASC's constituent organizations. On top of this, a night market is usually held before the actual show begins where student groups fundraise and promote their upcoming events. The night is marked with many exciting moments, and it is a memorable part of the UW experience that many students on campus look forward to.

2009 RUNDOWN. For several years, the show's format had been structured more like a talent showcase than an actual talent show competition. Paul Boupha, the commission director for the 2008-2009 term, decided to change all that and offer up a financial incentive for winning the competition. Thus, ASC constituents sent up their most talented and entertaining representatives to be in the show. The auditions were intense, various, and highly competitive, but the spots were ultimately narrowed down to twelve. These acts went on to wow the crowd and attracted an audience of more than 500 people! Eventually Eric Wu, representing CSA, won the competition followed by both Clairbel Novelo and Bryan Tilos from FASA as finalists.
